In Loving Memory of Mikey

In Loving Memory of Mikey 🕊️

The Lumberton community is mourning the heartbreaking loss of Mikey, a 15-year-old boy whose life was tragically passed away in a tragic incident at a residence on 600 Warwick Mill Road early Thursday morning. At just 15 years old, Mikey’s bright future and youthful spirit were taken far too soon, leaving his family, friends, and the entire community devastated.

According to the Lumberton Police Department, officers were called to the scene at approximately 12:18 a.m. after reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found Mikey suffering from a gunshot wound to the chest. His family acted immediately, providing aid and comfort until emergency medical personnel arrived. Mikey was transported to a local medical facility, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries.

Investigators report that 18-year-old Brylon Sanders, who was present at the residence, cooperated with authorities. Preliminary findings indicate that the firearm discharged accidentally while Sanders was attempting to unload it, striking Mikey who was seated nearby. The weapon was secured by officers, and statements were collected from those present, as the investigation continues.

Though the circumstances surrounding Mikey’s passing are under investigation, his loss is felt profoundly. Mikey was more than a news story—he was a beloved son, sibling, and friend. He brought joy and light to those around him, and his absence leaves a void that cannot be filled. In times of tragedy, it is the memories, the laughter, and the love we shared with someone that keep their spirit alive.

The community is urged to support Mikey’s family during this unimaginably difficult time and to come together to honor his memory. Anyone with information regarding this incident is asked to contact Detective Talia Gatlin at 910-671-3845.

Mikey’s life, though brief, mattered deeply. His memory will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. May he rest in peace, surrounded by love and remembrance. 🕊️

Forever remembered. Forever missed.
