According to investigators from Louisiana State Police Troop B, the heartbreaking incident occurred shortly before 5:00 a.m. along Louisiana Highway 18 (Seven Oaks Boulevard) near Utah Beach Drive in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana. Douglas, who was from Bridge City, Louisiana, was riding his bicycle when the tragic sequence of events unfolded.

Preliminary reports indicate that Douglas was traveling west on his bicycle when an unknown vehicle heading east struck him. The driver did not remain at the scene. After the initial impact, Douglas fell into the roadway where he was later struck by an eastbound Chevrolet S-10. Emergency responders arrived, but sadly Douglas had already sustained fatal injuries.

While the second driver cooperated fully with authorities and showed no signs of impairment, the driver of the first vehicle involved left the scene and has yet to be identified. Investigators continue to work tirelessly to determine the make and model of that vehicle and locate the individual responsible.
