Prince George Police Arrest Man in Death of 20-Month-Old Child on Blue Jay Street

The community of Prince George, Virginia, is mourning an unimaginable loss following the tragic death of a 20-month-old child on Blue Jay Street. A life so young, so innocent, and so full of promise has been heartbreakingly taken, leaving family members, neighbors, and first responders shaken with grief.

According to the Prince George Police Department, officers and Prince George Fire and EMS personnel responded at approximately 8:17 a.m. to a report of a non-responsive child in the 100 block of Blue Jay Street. Upon arrival, emergency responders found a 20-month-old boy who had sustained severe trauma. Life-saving measures were immediately initiated at the scene before he was rushed to Bon Secours Southside Medical Center. Despite every effort to save him, he was tragically pronounced deceased.

Following an intensive investigation, authorities have arrested 31-year-old Tyler William Skinner of Prince George, who investigators identified as the boyfriend of the child’s mother. He is currently being held at Riverside Regional Jail and has been charged with Second-Degree Murder (18.2-32) and Felony Abuse and Neglect of a Child (18.2-371.1).

The investigation remains active as detectives continue processing evidence and following leads. A formal update will be provided once the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determines the official cause and manner of death.

While the legal process now unfolds, the focus for many in Prince George is on the young life that was lost. At just 20 months old, this little boy was only beginning his journey in the world. In those short months, he likely filled his home with laughter, tiny footsteps, curious eyes, and the simple joys that only a toddler can bring.

Children at that age are discovering everything for the first time — learning words, reaching out with small hands, smiling freely, trusting fully. They embody innocence in its purest form. The loss of such a young child carries a unique and profound sorrow, one that resonates deeply within any community.

Neighbors and community members are left heartbroken, struggling to comprehend how such tragedy could occur. First responders who arrived on scene carried not only their training and professionalism but also the heavy emotional weight that comes with responding to incidents involving children. Their efforts to save him reflect the compassion and urgency that defined those critical moments.

As authorities continue their work, the Prince George Police Department is asking anyone with information to come forward, reminding the public that even the smallest detail could be vital to the ongoing investigation.

In the midst of grief, the community’s thoughts remain with the child’s family — those who loved him, cared for him, and now face an unbearable void. The loss of a child reshapes a family forever, leaving behind memories that must now serve as both comfort and reminder of a life far too brief.

Though his time on earth was short, his life mattered. He was cherished. He was known. He was loved.

May this precious little soul rest in eternal peace. May justice be served. And may the community of Prince George continue to hold one another close as they navigate the sorrow of a tragedy that will not soon be forgotten.
