In Loving Memory of Kenneth C. “Craig” Lanier and Rhonda Lanier 🕊️
The community of Bryan County, Georgia is mourning the heartbreaking and tragic loss of a beloved married couple, Kenneth C. “Craig” Lanier and Rhonda Lanier, whose lives were senselessly taken on Sunday evening, March 8, 2026. Their passing has left family members, friends, neighbors, and the entire community in deep sorrow as they struggle to come to terms with a tragedy that has shaken the quiet community of Nevils, Georgia.
Craig and Rhonda Lanier were known throughout their community as kind-hearted, generous people who cared deeply about those around them. They built a life together grounded in love, commitment, and faith, and their home was a place where warmth and hospitality were always present. To those who knew them personally, they were not only devoted spouses but also cherished friends, trusted neighbors, and pillars of support within their community.
The devastating discovery came during an unfolding investigation connected to a stolen vehicle and a dangerous pursuit. Authorities say the chain of events began around 4 p.m. when a suspect, later identified as Anthony Andrea Forney, allegedly approached a man who had stopped to help a motorist believed to be out of gas. During the encounter, Forney reportedly climbed into the man’s truck and drove away. The vehicle’s owner was able to track the truck using GPS, which eventually led authorities toward Ash Branch Church Road in Bryan County.
Deputies from Bulloch County Sheriff’s Office and troopers with the Georgia State Patrol soon spotted the suspect driving a gray Toyota Camry at high speed. During the pursuit, the vehicle’s brake lights activated suddenly before the car swerved off the road and overturned into a ditch. When officers reached the wrecked vehicle, they discovered that Forney had died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
As deputies continued their investigation, they approached a nearby residence connected to the stolen vehicle. Inside the home, they made the devastating discovery that Craig and Rhonda Lanier had been fatally shot. The stolen truck was also located on the property. Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing as officials work to fully understand the tragic sequence of events.
In a heartfelt statement, Mark D. Crowe of the Bryan County Sheriff’s Office expressed the deep sorrow felt by law enforcement and the community. “Our hearts are very heavy today,” he said. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the Lanier family during this time of grief, when they need the support of this community more than ever.” Sheriff Crowe also offered words of faith and comfort, saying that Craig and Rhonda are now “nestled in the arms of our Savior today.”
While the circumstances surrounding their passing are tragic, those who loved Craig and Rhonda choose to remember them for the lives they lived and the love they shared. Their marriage was a testament to partnership and devotion. Together, they built a life centered around family, compassion, and faith, touching the lives of many along the way.

Rhonda was remembered for her warmth and kindness, the kind of person who made everyone feel welcome and cared for. Together, they were the kind of couple that brought light into every room they entered.
