Preliminary reports indicate that a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by 21-year-old Grady Watkins of Lexington, Tennessee, was stopped at a traffic light in the eastbound lane when Corey, riding a 2025 Yamaha YZF-R7 motorcycle, was unable to maintain an assured clear distance and struck the rear of the vehicle.

Emergency responders arrived swiftly at the scene, including personnel from the Vermilion Police Department, Vermilion Fire Department, LifeCare Ambulance EMS, and D&A Towing. Corey was transported with life-threatening injuries, and despite the efforts of first responders and medical personnel, he later succumbed to those injuries. He was wearing a helmet at the time, and every possible effort was made to save his life.
