Austin Police Seek Driver in Deadly Hit-and-Run Involving Scooter Rider
The Austin Police Department is asking for the public’s help in identifying the driver of a truck involved in a fatal hit-and-run that claimed the life of a man riding a scooter in downtown Austin.
According to investigators, the collision occurred in the downtown area when a truck struck the scooter rider and fled the scene without stopping to render aid. Emergency personnel responded quickly, but despite life-saving efforts, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
Authorities have not yet released the identity of the man pending notification of next of kin. Detectives from the Vehicular Homicide Unit are actively reviewing surveillance footage and gathering witness statements in an effort to locate the driver and vehicle involved.
The Austin Police Department is urging anyone who may have witnessed the crash or has information about the suspect vehicle to contact APD’s Hit-and-Run Tip Line or Crime Stoppers. Anonymous tips may also be submitted.
